Our environmental priorities

Lactalis devised its CSR policy in line with the United Nations Global Compact and its seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The dairy sector, of which the Lactalis Group is part, is particularly involved in ten of those objectives:

  • In helping to sustain over 150 million producers throughout the world, including in the most disadvantaged regions, the dairy sector contributes to the fight against poverty. It also generates employment, promotes decent work and reduces inequalities.

  • As milk is a widely available essential source of proteins, nutrients and energy, it is one factor in the eradication of hunger and malnutrition and the promotion of health and wellbeing.

  • Finally, due to its presence in all locations, animal feed agriculture and industry’s role in reducing greenhouse gases, the dairy sector is an important contributor to promoting responsible forms of production and consumption. It enables action against climate change, the protection of land ecosystems and thepromotion of biodiversity. The dairy sector also has an impact on the sustainable management of water and sanitation resources, with the spread of good practices based on science and proven results.

Our current production methods contribute to those impacts; therefore, we have a responsibility as well as a role to play. In 2020 and 2021, we consulted our stakeholders, identified our priorities, measured our impacts and made our commitments. Our top priorities are:
