Action against climate change

At Lactalis, we think that dairy products are part of the solution for sustainable nutrition. Therefore, we work to reduce our impacts on the environment and climate. Our efforts focus equally on water management, waste treatment and the use of resources. Our ambition: contribute to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

The latest IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) reports stress that it is still possible to limit the rise in world temperature to +1.5°C above preindustrial levels, but that we are dangerously close to that threshold. We are aware of the climate emergency and want to utilize the Group’s global dimension to initiate a positive knock-on effect on our various local stakeholders.

In 2021, we calculated our 2019 carbon emissions, using it as our base year. We followed the internationally recognized Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol methodology, concentrating initially on direct emissions from our manufacturing and logistics activities (so-called scope 1 and scope 2 emissions). That process enabled us to set two initial targets for reducing our scope 1 and scope 2 emissions first in 2025 and then in 2033, the date of Lactalis’s centenary.

Commitments:

  • 25 % cutting our emissions by at least 25% by the end of 2025

  • 50 % cutting our emissions by at least 50% by the end of 2033

  • Carbon Net Zero by the end of 2050

  • Lactalis's involvement in the Pathways to Dairy Net Zero initiative
